Resident Evil 6

3 years have passed since RE5 and now RE6 has arrived. After playing the game for about a month. I can say Resident Evil 6 is one unique game. There are hits and misses within the game, and I will go over what I find.

Here is a list of some improvements in RE6:
  • Combat Mechanics- The controls for shooting has greatly improved. Now you can actually move while firing and reload while moving. Equipping weapons is a lot easier now since you can cycle the weapons on the d-pad, as well as the grenades and first aid spray.

  • Melee System- The added melee system gives new innovative ways to fight against the zombies and J'avo. As opposed to having to stun enemies to go into melee in previous games, you can actually go into fights only using melee.

  • 4 Player Co-op- While RE5 introduced us with the co-op system, RE6 took it a step further. There are now moments in the campaign where up to 4 players will fight together in a situation. I like how the game crosses over with two different campaigns and connect to other players who are near the same point in the game.

  • Agent Hunt Mode- This is a new mode that is quite creative. Players can play as the very enemies you fought. Like the same way as 4 player co-op, the game will find points where people are playing and throw you into a game and fight against the human players. Every enemy has different moves and I especially think has good replay value.

  • Multiple Campaigns- The game contains 4 unique campaigns each with a new feeling and genre, as if taking former games and combining them into a big game. Leon's campaign focuses more on the survival horror; almost a similar feeling as RE2. Chris's campaign has an action feel like RE5. Jake's campaign has the constant struggles of a returning enemy like RE3. And Ada has the sneaky feeling like RE4.

  • New Characters- As much as it is to have famous Resident Evil characters return, it was good to see fresh new faces. The new characters have their motives to fight in this struggle against the enemy and I love it. My favorite is Jake. He is the son of Wesker and in a way shows the Wesker bloodline still running in the series.
With all these improvements, you would think it's a great and perfect game. However, there are flaws that I should address.

  • Inventory Menu- People complained that it was difficult to use the menu in RE5 and that it should be fixed. And unfortunately the inventory is the same in RE6. The problem is that it is in real time and you have to rush your way through the menus to accomplish your task. I have heard people wishing to have the same menu like RE4. But in my opinion the real time menu makes the fear more realistic and doesn't break the mood.

  • Inventory Space- Another problem with the inventory is there so few spaces. With all the weapons you will accumulate and ammo, you will occasionally find yourself max out with ammo and have to drop some of your gear to give more room for other equipment.

  • Unable to Share Weapons- In RE5 it was fun to exchange weapons with your partner and that really makes you feel like a team. In RE6, you are stuck with the weapons you got. In each campaign, there are a set of weapons that both characters will get. However, if you want to share the default weapons, you will find it impossible. This makes the teamwork seem limited.

  • Skill Points- The new currency is skill points. They are used to buy upgrades for the character and even infinite ammo. There are upgrades for the campaign, Mercenaries, and Agent Hunt. The problem is most skills are way too expensive, even more so than RE5. And unfortunately there is no fast way to farm skill points except going through chapters again.

  • Co-op AI- If you are playing the game single player, then you will be using the traditional AI partner. And unfortunately, the AI is the same as in RE5. There will be times where your partner will most likely get in your way. And even though there are more commands, most of the time, the AI partner doesn't follow them.

  •  Storyline- Not to say the story of the game is completely bad, but it seems to repeat ideas from previous games. I find the story not to be original. And also, the villains don't seem to have the dark tone like Wesker. I think the story should have ended with Wesker's death. But instead they have to reveal a weak story that shouldn't  be necessary.
In the end the game seemed to focus on quality instead of quality. The game is pact with so much content, but it is flawed with problems. Is as though Capcom fixed some problems from Resident Evil 5, but created new problems for Resident Evil 6. Either way, the game has good value and is worth trying it out.

PS3 Super Slim

I have seen the new model of the PS3 and I got to say, "Huh". It has been years since the release of the slim PS3 and now we get something that is more compact. But the question is, is it worth it?

There are some unique benefits to the Super Slim. Some would even agree what I think.
  • Size and weight- Six years have past since the original PS3. You remember how massive and bulky they were. They were as big as a blender and as heavy as a cement block. Sony has made an improvement with the first slim model. The size and weight were slightly reduced. However, with this new model it is almost having the old PS2 weight and size. Comparing the Super Slim with the fat PS3, you will see and feel a big difference.

  • Disc tray- The system is now a top loader. At first, you will think it's a downgrade in technology. But really think about it. You don't have to turn on the console to insert the disc. And in the long run, if you happen to get YLOD, getting the disc is A LOT easier.

  • HDD- Right now the Super Slim has different hard drives. You can get a 12 GB model, (but who really wants that), or a 500 GB model. Obviously 500 GB is a lot to handle and with that much space, you won't have to worry of having a full HDD for a long time.
However, there are some downsides to the new PS3.
  • Appearance- The new PS3 doesn't really look like a high advance console. In a way it reminds you of the slim version of the PS2. The grill texture on the top of the console makes it feel cheap. Almost wondering if the tray would hold its own.

  • Non-compatible for PS2 games- The real question was if this new PS3 can play PS2 games and sad to say, the answer is still no. I believe having PS2 backwards compatibility was the greatest feature for a PS3. You never had to lug out a PS2 to play PS2 games. The original PS3s played everything. However, since the release of the slim and other models of the fat PS3s, this feature has be dropped. Even after six years, PS3s still have NO PS2 BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY.

  • No other accessories- Sure there are bundles for the new system, but what about buying the default package. Even with this new PS3, in the box still lies the same cables, controller, and instruction manuals. Why don't they package together an HDMI cable or a headset? that would make this new PS3 more worthy.
After all of this, I have concluded that while the new PS3s are more compact and easy to carry, there is nothing new to offer to the PS3 community. If you already have a PS3, just stay with the one you have. There is no need to go out to get the Super Slim. However, if you never had a PS3 and want to get one, I would say go for it.
